Calculate your Cap and Trade Burden

The Tax Foundation has created a handy calculator families across the country can use to calculate the increased tax burden they will face if the Cap and Trade (Tax) proposal being pushed by Congressional Democrats and the Obama Administration becomes law.
The calculator is based upon a study released in March, Tax Foundation Working Paper No. 6, "Who Pays for Climate Policy? New Estimates of the Household Burden and Economic Impact of a U.S. Cap-and-Trade System." The study shows that a cap-and-trade system designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 15 percent would place an annual burden of $144.8 billion on American households. The average annual household burden would be $1,218, which would be approximately 2% of the average household income.

Although carbon emission permits under a cap-and-trade system would be purchased first by energy companies, the costs are ultimately paid by American consumers. The calculator asks how much a household's combined monthly income is (pre-tax) and how much a household spends monthly on various items like electricity, natural gas, food, clothing and transportation. It then calculates the total annual additional cost that cap-and-trade would impose on that household as well as the cap-and-trade burden as a percentage of income.
Calculate your burden here, then contact your Representatives in Congress and tell them to oppose this tax increase.

  1. It seems to me that Obama has used the excuse of, "You voted for Change", to put in place things like Cap and Trade, Huge Bailouts and High Taxes in order to excuse himself and the Democrats from getting the correct approval from taxpayers and voters to implement these programs. It seems like bullying and Elitist Reshaping of our lives, all because we voted for Change. Well this is why we Conservatives were skeptical of Vague Change in the first place, especially from a Radical Liberal Like Obama. We as a Country need to learn our lessons now, that voting is serious enough that we have to examine what these Politicians want to do. The way to do that is become your own detective and add up the positives and negatives about a candidate.
Time and time again we heard about shady friends of Obama and Community organizing tactics in which he is a pro at. We need to act on our own behalf from now on because if we all just take care of our own families in a conservative way we wont feel the need to give into the Liberal guilt trips that come our way about how we need to become a Community and "It takes a village". These are very wrong and very coersive ideas that tug at our heart string but make us reluctant to vote with our minds. We already do live as a community and we already do give to charities and we dont need Politicians telling us and taxing us in ways that insinuate that we do not. Thats why this Cap and Trade Bill is linked to this type of Politics.
It says to us that we have been naughty in our usage of fuels, therefore we need to pay through the nose in order to lead the rest of the world in the area of alternative energy. We can certainly do that but we should be doing it in a slower more definative way that ensures the public that we know what we are doing and that we are doing it in bipartisan non political ways. Not by ramming new taxes down our throats to institute programs for Cap and Trade that might or might not help the environment while taking away much needed money from American Families during a recession / Depression. I feel this is being done so quickly because the Democrats know they have one party rule right now and are using every little crisis to pass these harmful programs and taxes through. Dont let the Democrats buy your vote with Stimulus Checks and Politic Guilt Trips. Stand up for your Economic Freedom. Thank You.

  2. I have not nnderstood all the people who voted for obama. He stated all he had planned to do but so many could only see the hatred of GWbush.I love the statement of an older woman pushing her crippled husband after voting "WE HAVE MADE HISTORY"
HISTORY I SAID TO HER YOU JUST VOTED FOR SOCIALISM
So people you got what you asked for. Weep in silence.
